Cannonball Adderley - Biografia

Julian Edwin "Cannonball" Adderley urodził się 15 września 1928 w Tampa. Pseudonim "Cannonball" pochodzi od słowa "cannibal" (kanibal), którym obdarzono Adderleya w szkole średniej ze względu na jego ogromny apetyt. Tam też, w latach 1944-48, uczył się gry na instrumentach dętych, zarówno drewnianych, jak i blaszanych. Do 1956 r. był kierownikiem zespołu w Dillerd High School (Lauderdale, w stanie Floryda) i prowadził własny kwartet. W latach 50-tych przeniósł się do Nowego Jorku. W 1957 roku dołączył do sekstetu Milesa Davisa, po tym jak John Coltrane zrezygnował z bycia jego członkiem na rzecz grupy Theloniousa Monka.
